16 College Backpack Essentials Every Student Needs

September 3, 2020 Leave a Comment

college backpack essentialsCollege has just started for the year, and while not everyone is on campus, I know many students are! Here are 16 college backpack essentials every student needs!

College Backpack Essentials

Laptop

In my opinion, the MOST important thing to have in your backpack. I always take my laptop with me to class, and it is how I do almost all of my school work.

Hand Sanitizer

This is a no brainer at the moment! I always have at least one container of hand sanitizer on me at all times.

Mask

I always have a mask on, but I like to have a spare mask or two in my bag just in case! These cute ones I ordered are from Kitsch, and I have found them to be very breathable, as well as looking cute!

Pens and Highlighters

Pens, highlighters, pencils, and erasers are a must! I put all of mine into a cute pencil case so they don’t get lost in my backpack.

Laptop and Phone Charger

If I am in class all day I NEED to bring these. My laptop is getting kind of old now and just dies so quickly, so I always make sure to pack these.

Snacks

If I have a long class or a full day of classes I like to pack a snack to eat in between. Even now with COVID restrictions my professors have given a short break during my long classes, which gives me a chance to eat something. Plus, this will save you money as you won’t buy snacks on campus.

Water Bottle

I cannot survive class without my water bottle. I literally go through the whole thing in just one class. Having a bottle that is refillable is to important, as not only is it good for the environment but there are so many places on campus that you can refill it.

Planner

I always, always, always, plan my planner for class! Whenever the professor tells the class an important date I write everything into here.

Wallet and Keys

Pretty obvious, but these are definitely college backpack essentials. Also make sure to carry your student ID with you on campus as you never know when you may need it!

Headphones

Headphones are definitely one of the important college backpack essentials. Who doesn’t love listening to music while walking around campus? Also, you may need headphones for your laptop in class too.

Notebook/Paper

I always have some form of paper or a notebook with me. Even though I tend to use my laptop, you never know when you will need some paper in class!

Lip balm

I literally apply lip balm ALL. THE. TIME. So this is something that I personally always have in my backpack.

Calculator

You never know when you’ll need your calculator! I am actually surprised by how often I use mine, and I tend to keep it in my backpack just in case.

Textbooks

I tend to get a lot of my textbooks as ebooks, but if you do have textbooks make sure you bring them to class! There have been so many times my professors have asked us to use our textbooks in class, and I have felt stupid because i’ve forgotten 🙂

Umbrella

I don’t always pack an umbrella, but if the weather forecast is looking like there is rain, I definitely add one to my backpack! There’s nothing worse than getting stuck in the rain without an umbrella.

Tissues

Tissues are such a useful thing to add to your college backpack essentials, as you never know when you will need them. I always make sure to have some in my backpack, especially in the colder months.

I hope these college backpack essentials helped you to get prepared for college! If you have any other college backpack essentials, please comment below! As always, thanks for reading.
